FAQ

A. Nisso’s US headquarters is located in Edison, NJ. Our parent company, Nippon Soda, is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
A. Nisso supplies many niche products for a large variety of end applications. We offer elastomers (polybutadiene, TODI), agriculture products (insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and more), binders for pharmaceuticals (HPC and CELNY), and industrial chemicals (sodium, potassium, chlorine, vanadium derivatives).
A. Our parent company Nippon Soda is traded publicly on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

A. Nisso’s products are used as a tool by farmers to help support crop growth or prevent yield loss from pests.
A. Nisso offers acaricides, to prevent mites or ticks, fungicides, to prevent mold, insecticides, to protect against a variety of insects, and many others.
A. In order to obtain the maximum yield, farmers use different products to protect their crops. Nisso offers a wide range of materials that help support this effort.
A. Nisso is always innovating and creating new products for different types of crops, on a commercial scale. Please contact us to find out more.
A. HPC is used as a binder for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products.
A. HPC has a variety of grades, so certain offerings are easier to handle. Heating >50C is recommended for highly viscous grades to achieve dissolution.
A. The product is made from propylene oxide and pulp.
A. There are many applications for HPC, mainly in the pharma and neutral industries. It can also be used in the ink industry.

A. Polybutadiene is a building block for many different rubber, plastic, urethane and acrylic applications. Polybutadiene can be used as a cross linker, additive, casting polymer or a variety of uses in elastomers and thermoplastics.
A. NISSO PB, the trade name of our polybutadiene, is manufactured by our original living anionic polymerization method. It is Nisso’s proprietary polymerization technology for liquid polybutadiene and other polymers. This technology allows a high vinyl content, leading to improved mechanical and chemical properties.
A. Butadiene can polymerize in three different ways: cis (1,4-polybutadiene), trans (1,4-polybutadiene), or vinyl (1,2-polybutadiene). Liquid polybutadiene produced by Nisso has a higher vinyl, or 1,2-polybutaidne, content versus other materials similar in structure. The high vinyl content leads to improvements in many areas of the finished product.
A. When cured, formulations containing Nisso Polybutadiene offer improvements in:
  • Electrical Properties: low dielectric constant (Dk), low dissipation factor (Df)
  • Higher Glass Transition Temperature (Tag)
  • Increased Hardness
  • Increased Plasticity
  • Additional Oil Resistance, Water Resistance
  • Additional Acid Resistance
A. Nisso offers various PB-series, such as base resins, hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB), hydrogenated polybutadiene, epoxidized polybutadiene, and polybutadiene acrylate resins.
A.
  • Narrow molecular dispersion
  • More Than 85% 1,2-vinyl groups in the molecular chain
  • Over 90% functional groups at the end of each polymer
A. Nisso PB is used in many different applications across various industries. Some examples are:
  • Rubber Additive: flexographic printing plates, rubber parts for automobiles, plasticizer, acid acceptor (for halogenated rubber), gaskets, packing, sealants
  • Resin Additive: plasticizer, reinforcement for carbon fiber or plastic
  • Coatings & Paint: leveling agent, defoamer, plasticizer
  • Adhesives: for optical clear resin, optical clear adhesive, SGA(second generation acrylic adhesive), hot melt, epoxy curing, UV curing, heat curing
  • Electrical Products: insulating materials, FCCL (Flexible Copper Clad Laminate), CCL (Copper Clad Laminate), solder resist, cover lay
  • Urethanes: as a polyol, clear filler for optical improvements, reinforcement
A. 4.4’-Diisocynato-3.3’-dimetyl-1’-biphenyl or O-Tolidine Diisocyanate (CAS No. 91-97-4)
A. Urethane elastomer have various advantages when compared with rubber, plastic and metal. This is especially true of the urethane elastomers made using Tolidine diisocyanate (TODI). TODI-based elastomers offer excellent heat resistance and hydrolysis resistance properties along with superior mechanical properties.
A.
  1. Sealing (oil sealing, piston ring, water sealed, etc.)
  2. Automobile parts (grille, shock absorbers, bumper extensions, roof, door, window and body, etc.)
  3. Industrial use (belt, roll, caster, etc.)
  4. Electric (coating agent, etc.)
  5. Medical equipment (artificial organ, etc.)
A. Sodium metal is the elemental form of sodium. It is a soft, silvery-white, highly reactive, alkali metal.
A. Sodium metal is made from the electrolysis of sodium chloride (NaCl). The process yields 1 sodium for every 2 chlorine.
A. Sodium is used in a wide variety of industrial applications ranging from pharmaceuticals, paper pulp, tires, biodiesel, and many different types of catalysts. It can also be used to purify precious metals.
A. Nisso’s parent company, Nippon Soda, acquired 100% of MSSA Chemical Company (formerly known as Metaux Speciaux) in 2012 MSSA is a French maker of sodium and related by-products with a factory in Saint-Marcel, Savoy, France
A. MSSA is also manufacturing vanadium derivatives such as vanadium trichloride (VCl3), vanadium oxytrichloride (VOCl3), and vanadium tetrachloride (VCl4). In addition they produce high purity chlorine (HP-Cl), sodium derivatives, and potassium.
